Théo Curin knows all about challenges. Having had all four limbs amputated at the age of six due to bacterial meningitis, he became a professional swimmer with multiple awards. He notably won two silver medals at the World Para Swimming Championships in the 100m and 200m freestyle in Mexico City. But the Paralympic athlete didn’t even dare dream of television, as he recounted on the occasion of the first broadcast this Monday of “Slam”, which he has taken over.
“Often, when you’re a child, you have dreams that seem a little unattainable. I dreamed of being a TV presenter, but I thought it would never happen,” he confided to Gala.
The new head of France Télévision, who also hosts “T’es au top”, a children’s programme on France 4, considered it a deal-breaker to come “from the depths of Lorraine” and not know “anyone in that environment”. “And then, my particularity also means that it can be a barrier, so it was an old dream that was still inaccessible a few years ago”, he admits.
