reparation – Emmaüs studies the possibility of compensation for the victims of Abbé Pierre after the publication of a report containing 17 new accusations

Following the publication on Friday of a report against Abbé Pierre, which included 17 new accusations of sexual violence, Emmaüs International is “considering” a form of compensation for the victims. For the first time, some of these accusations concern acts that could be considered rape or involve minors.

“It’s a very important issue that we’re working on, that we’re thinking about right now,” Adrien Chaboche said when asked about the issue of compensation on RTL. “It’s a process that takes a little bit of time.”

Change of name

Following this report, commissioned by the Abbé Pierre Foundation, Emmaüs France and Emmaüs International, the three organisations reaffirmed their “total support” for the victims and announced a series of measures. The Abbé Pierre Foundation indicated in particular that it had initiated steps to change its name and Emmaüs announced the permanent closure of a memorial centre dedicated to Abbé Pierre in Esteville (Seine-Maritime).
