The new government is not yet known, but economic problems are already piling up on the ministers’ desks. The figures for the health insurance deficit are not likely to be good, its director general believes in an interview published Sunday by The Echoes.

“The deficit in the health branch will probably be higher than the 11.4 billion euros expected by the Social Security Accounts Committee in June” and “should remain at a historically very high level,” warns Thomas Fatôme. In his eyes, it is “a subject of major concern that the next government and Parliament will have to address quickly.”

Compensation for work stoppages on the rise

As head of health insurance, Thomas Fatôme is keen to “ensure that resources are used well and to react when there are more dynamic expenses, such as those related to compensation for work stoppages”, which will increase “by more than a billion” euros in 2024.
