An XXL score in favor of the outgoing Algerian president. This Sunday, Abdelmadjid Tebboune was re-elected for a second term with nearly 95% of the votes, announced Sunday the president of the electoral authority, Anie.

Out of a total of 5.630 million “votes recorded, 5.320 million voted for the independent candidate” Abdelmadjid Tebboune, “or 94.65% of the votes,” said Mohamed Charfi. The president of the Anie did not provide new figures on the participation rate, after having announced during the night “an average rate of 48% at the close of the polls” on Saturday at 8 p.m. (7 p.m. GMT).

« Large transparence » vs « violations »

“The election was marked by broad transparency” and “reflected the electoral maturity of the people,” the president of Anie said. However, a few hours earlier, one of Abdelmadjid Tebboune’s competitors, the moderate Islamist candidate Abdelaali Hassani, had denounced “violations” during the vote. According to his campaign team, there was “pressure on certain polling station officials to inflate the results,” particularly the turnout.
