Road to Spain collapses after torrential rain washes away

Summer Deluge – The roadway has been cut in two due to heavy rainfall in the southwest

Imagine a GPS voice telling you: “Turn around”. In Urdos, this is more or less what has been happening for a few hours. In this small village in the Aspe Valley, in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques, the RN134 is literally cut in two. A section of the road has collapsed, the prefecture announced, showing an image of torrential rain devouring the roadway. A collapse that is not without consequences. Because the RN134 is an important axis leading to the Somport tunnel and connecting with Spain. Traffic is now impossible in this area, as is crossing to our Spanish friends. The prefect has triggered a traffic management plan and closed the RN134 on the Oloron-Spain section.

Homes without electricity

The Pyrénées-Atlantiques department was placed on orange alert on Friday evening due to bad weather. Torrential rains fell on the valleys, causing river levels to rise. Around 300 homes would be without electricity, the prefecture announced.
