African entrepreneur Strive Masiyiwa, founder of Cassava Technologies and Econet Group, announced a major new initiative in artificial intelligence (AI) at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. This initiative aims to promote digital inclusion and boost economic development in Africa through the use of AI.
Strive Masiyiwa, who participated in a roundtable entitled Reinventing Digital Inclusionhighlighted the importance of this initiative as a decisive step to further connect the continent and create opportunities for its people. Inspired by the work of the Edison Alliance, a global coalition promoting access to digital services, this initiative stands out for its desire to be led by Africans for Africa.
According to Masiyiwa:
“We must ensure that growth and prosperity in Africa is driven by AI, not only as users, but also as entrepreneurs who create their own businesses and generate jobs for young people. »
Strive Masiyiwa also highlighted the crucial need for suitable financing for African startups. He criticized the absence of domestic venture capital, explaining that many talented young entrepreneurs in Africa are held back by the lack of a supporting ecosystem.
-He declared:
“In America, young people are getting $500 million to develop their businesses. In Africa, we have this talent, but no access to this type of financing. This is a problem we need to solve. »
Masiyiwa called for Africa to take the reins of its own technological development, emphasizing the key role of African leaders in building a future where AI becomes an engine of growth, education and innovation for the continent.
