Obesity: why should we emphasize understanding this disease?

According to the WHO, in 2022, 1 in 8 people will suffer from obesity. Some doctors speak of an epidemic in view of the explosion of cases in recent decades. Since 1980, obesity has more than doubled among adults and quadrupled among adolescents worldwide. A chronic disease, obesity is an abnormal or excessive accumulation of body fat. Both the American and European health authorities have authorized the marketing of an injectable antidiabetic drug, semaglutide (sold under the brands Ozempic or Wegovy), a hormone which promotes the feeling of satiety and causes weight loss.
