Burn the blood takes us to the working-class neighborhoods of Nice: a pillar of the local Georgian community is murdered. Her son Tristan, who aspires to become an Orthodox priest, finds himself alone with his grieving mother. It is then that Gabriel reappears, the older brother with a sulphurous past, who returns from a long exile with the aim of redeeming himself by clearing his family’s honor.

Filmmaker Akaki Popkhadze wanted to make an immersive film, as close as possible to the characters, with a camera dancing around them like a ballet. He specifies in the production notes of his feature film: “I tried to make both a family drama and a revenge thriller. The film takes place within the Georgian community of Nice. I was able to talk about my family, where I come from. It takes place in the town where I have lived since I was 15.” In theaters January 22, 2025.
