The press release from the prefecture:
From January 13 to 19, 2025, 54 new cases were reported. Already active outbreaks continue to report cases, thus confirming the persistence of the circulation of the virus. However, a dispersion of outbreaks is notable with the appearance of isolated cases in new municipalities: Les Avirons, Petite-Ile, Saint-Denis Saint-Joseph, Sainte-Marie, Le Port and Saint-Louis.
The Sheunon ravine outbreak in L’Etang-Salé remains the most active with 96 cases recorded.
By the numbers

256 indigenous cases recorded
1 hospitalization of +24 hours reported
Mapped distribution of cases since August 22, 2024
Prevention and vector control measures (LAV)
Mobilization of LAV agents: as soon as a case of chikungunya is reported, the ARS intervenes without waiting for confirmation of the case by the medical biology laboratory, in order to reduce the risk of spreading the virus.
Awareness raising in schools: in collaboration with municipalities, the ARS intervenes in establishments located in the most affected sectors to carry out prevention.
Reminder to health professionals on patient care, prevention and epidemiological surveillance of cases, essential for the effective response to the epidemic.
Strengthening public health actions: partnership actions with municipalities and intercommunities are intensifying in areas where the virus circulates: maintenance of public and private spaces (pruning, collection and elimination of waste and bulky items).
-Let’s adopt the right actions
The mobilization of the population alongside public and associative actors is essential to fight effectively against the spread of the epidemic in our territory.
The health authorities remind us of the importance of preventive measures to be applied by everyone:
Eliminate places where mosquitoes can lay their eggs (receptacles in which water can stagnate: gutters, tires, cups, etc.);
Protect yourself from mosquito bites (sprays, mosquito nets, coils, long clothing, etc.);
Consult your doctor in the event of symptoms (fever associated with headache, joint and/or muscle pain, nausea, vomiting, severe fatigue, red patches or pimples on the skin, irritation, eye pain, conjunctivitis).
For people who have contracted the disease, it is important to continue to protect themselves as long as symptoms persist: it is crucial to protect yourself from bites during this period to avoid transmitting the virus
“Rouv Baro” device
Welcoming an LAV agent allows you to:
Benefit from a free diagnosis of places conducive to mosquito laying;
To identify and eliminate larval breeding sites;
Implement treatment measures when necessary, thereby effectively contributing to the control of mosquito vectors.
