Maude Perreault receives the 2024 Michelle-Laflamme Prize

Assistant professor in the Department of Nutrition at the University of Montreal and researcher at the Jean-Jacques-Gauthier Center, Maude Perreault devotes her career to thinking about solutions to improve the quality of life of the approximately 85,000 people affected by celiac disease in Quebec .

Her commitment to making food accessible to everyone regardless of their medical constraints as well as her key role within the Cœliaque Québec organization earned her the 2024 Michelle-Laflamme prize.

“Eating should remain a pleasure, even with dietary restrictions,” says the woman who collaborates with Cœliaque Québec on projects to disseminate knowledge about nutrition in the context of celiac disease and teaching the next generation. “The only treatment for this disease is the adoption of a gluten-free diet for life. The role of nutritionists is therefore essential,” she adds.

Inspiring dedication

Since 2022, its contribution to the celiac community has been remarkable. In particular, she presented the results of her research on the quality of life of people suffering from this autoimmune disease at seven scientific conferences. In addition to his current publications in the Journal of Human Nutrition and Dieteticsshe notably participated in a Canadian Nutrition Society podcast where she explored the links between food knowledge and celiac disease.
