The Officers’ Mess should return to activity during the first half of 2025. The building has been closed to the public since the fire which ravaged it in 2022. Although many entrepreneurs were interested, including many restaurateurs, its next activity should be radically different.
Towards an epilogue for the Officers’ Mess? It looks like it. Finally. This historic building in downtown Perpignan, adjacent to Le Castillet, should come back to life during 2025.
According to information from The Independenta compromise was even signed for the exploitation of the business. The new owners, from a family well established in Perpignan, wish to remain discreet about their identity for the time being. But also on the nature of the future activity which will be hosted by the Mess. Sports brand, fast food… these hypotheses that were on the table
So put an end to the different (and numerous) hypotheses that have surrounded the future of the Mess in recent months. Because many of them hoped to obtain the keys to this building ideally located in the city center of Perpignan. Very large international and global groups have been eyeing the deal. Like a German sports brand and even the fast food giant McDonald’s. Independents also wanted to take over the reins of the former Officers’ Mess. Several restaurateurs came knocking on the door, including people from Perpignan already established in the heart of the city.

But ultimately it is a completely different activity that will bring this building with a difficult past back to life. For the record, it was completely ravaged by a fire in August 2022 when it housed the restaurant Le Mess by Julien Hermida. The flames, which broke out during the night in the middle of summer, did not cause any casualties. But at daybreak, the place was unrecognizable. After several weeks of expertise, which ruled out “any suspicious or criminal cause” at the origin of the fire, the major reconstruction work was able to begin in January 2023. For a project which ended during the second half of 2024.

The Mess will be delivered to the new owners of the business with its two completely renovated levels. If its structure, and its external appearance, are identical to its original version, within it some materials have been changed. No more traumatic wood. Concrete and iron beams were preferred.
