The worst salads according to 60 Million consumers

Some ready-made salads, available in bags in supermarkets, contain pesticide residues which are causing concern. A recent survey conducted by 60 Million consumers highlights worrying elements about these products.

The study screened 26 bagged salads, including lettuces, lamb’s lettuce and iceberg salads, sold in the fresh sections of supermarkets. The results show widespread contamination.

In fact, each salad contains on average 3.8 pesticide residues. Be aware that, if these levels respect the regulatory limits, this still represents a problem. 60 Million consumers emphasizes that “the risks linked to the accumulation of these chemical substances in the body still remain nebulous”.

Which raises questions about the long-term health effects. The magazine, published by the National Consumer Institute, has identified four of the most problematic salads. These products had the worst rating in the survey of 60 Million consumers.

And this is because of their high content of pesticide residues. This is the case for organic Carrefour Mâche, sold at Carrefour, which obtains a score of 5/20. The origin of this salad (, Italy, Spain) and the presence of a prohibited molecule explain this classification.

60 Million consumers specifies that “the presence of a prohibited molecule implies the worst “pesticide” rating”. The Top Budget lettuce mix, distributed by Intermarché, also receives a score of 5/20.

This salad is the subject of criticism for the same reasons, linked to the pesticide residues detected. The Heart of Lettuce Market, marketed by Carrefour, also remains poorly rated, with 5/20. The leaves for this salad can come from several countries.

Other alternatives not recommended

This shows a systemic problem in his culture. Gardener Flavor Lettuce Heart, sold at Aldi, also completes the list of worst salads. This reference also gets a rating of 5/20. The investigation does not stop at these four products.

Other bagged salads show worrying results for 60 Million consumers. Among them is Saint Eloi lamb’s lettuce, sold at Intermarché, with a rating of 5.3/20.

But also the Maxi format lamb’s lettuce from Bonduelle, rated 6.2/20, and Cœur de lettuce 100% heart from Bonduelle, which scores 6.6/20. As well as the lamb’s lettuce from U stores, which managed to rise to 8.9/20 thanks to an “insufficient” assessment regarding pesticides.

These results show that even slightly higher-rated products remain problematic. Health-conscious consumers must opt for alternatives. Certain bagged salads, better ranked in this survey, can replace those pinned.

For better safety, it is better to favor organic salads. These are generally free of pesticides.
