Since the launch of the measles vaccination campaign, inmates and employees of the local prison in Tetouan have shown notable interest in receiving the vaccine. This initiative is part of the prevention measures adopted by the DGAPR, in partnership with the Ministry of Health and Social Protection.
According to Hassan El Omari, director of the local prison of Tetouan, the campaign is taking place under normal conditions and benefits from strong support from prisoners. “All necessary precautions have been taken, in accordance with the instructions of the DGAPR,” he assured.
According to a press release from the DGAPR, published on Friday January 10, 2025, a total of 47 cases of measles were recorded in nine penitentiary establishments across the country. Among these cases, 7 detainees have already recovered thanks to the recommended treatment protocol, leaving 40 active cases: 38 people in medical isolation and 2 under treatment in a public hospital.
«We follow a policy of transparent communication with public opinion in order to inform them of developments in the health situation in prisons.», Specifies the press release from the DGAPR. The distribution of cases is such that 16 are in the local prison of Tangier 2 (including one hospitalized), 9 are in the local prison of Mohammedia, and 7 cases are in the Aïn Borja prison in Casablanca (including one hospitalized).
Isolated cases were noted in other establishments: 2 cases in the central prison of Kénitra and the Bourkisent prison in Fez, as well as one case in the prisons of Bouarfa, El Kalaâ des Sraghna, Benslimane and from Tetouan.

At the same time, 5 prison employees also contracted measles, among which one employee has already recovered while the other four are still following the treatment protocol.
As part of this prevention operation, a total of 3,788 inmates and 84 employees were voluntarily vaccinated under the supervision of medical teams reporting to the regional health and social protection delegations.
