“I lived with the uncertainty of the diagnosis, the anxiety of the operation, the daily life of the treatments”: Yaël Braun-Pivet reveals her fight against breast cancer

During this interview, the President of the National Assembly recounted her fight against breast cancer.

For her, it was a “bolt of thunder”. Friday January 10, in an interview given to journalist Maïtena Biraben for her media Mesdames, Yaël Braun-Pivet announced that she was diagnosed with breast cancer three years ago, in 2022.

“Today, I am doing well,” said the President of the National Assembly. “I am under hormonal therapy and I am followed regularly by a team of caregivers who throughout this process have been tremendously committed and dedicated.” Team that she thanks, saluting their “commitment” and their “dedication”.

Like more than 60,000 women each year, I was diagnosed with breast cancer just 3 years ago.

As with them, it was a bolt from the blue in my life. No one is prepared for cancer.

No one is prepared for cancer. Like more than 60,000 women each year, I lived with the uncertainty of the diagnosis, the anxiety of the operation, the wait for the analysis results, the daily life of the treatments,” she confides.

“Don’t sweep the dust under the rug”

Elected from in 2017, re-elected in 2022 then in 2024, Yaël Braun Pivet took advantage of this interview to remind people of the importance of prevention. “Like many, I sometimes left the envelopes from the national screening campaign or my doctor’s prescription lying around on the living room table,” she admits.

In 2022, she finally decided to take the plunge. It was after an appointment for a mammogram that her cancer was diagnosed. “This screening allowed me to take it early and be able to have surgery, radiotherapy and follow-up behind it.”

An unexpected announcement, but the President of the National Assembly judges “that it is important in any case to say it in the sense that it is absolutely necessary for women to become aware of the importance of being tested. In life, we must not sweep the dust under the carpet.”
