“Bring something outside of medical », this is the mission given to six professionals working with the League against cancer, according to the formula of Julie Francou, kinesiologist and coach, in charge of relaxation sessions. At his side, a dietician, Laure Pinault; a reflexology practitioner, Anaïs Berthon; a socio-esthetician, Céline Barbier, as well as Émilie Jousse, socio-hairdresser and Maxence Nogrette, teacher in adapted physical activity. The team offers workshops to support cancer patients, offering them supportive care reducing the physical and psychological impacts of medical treatments, without forgetting to support caregivers.
Soon a space dedicated to workshops at the medical center
Listening is key to the workshops offered and the objective is to maintain quality of life. The sessions are aimed at people undergoing treatment or in remission and are entirely supported by the League against cancer and the CPTS (Professional Territorial Health Community) of Val de Creuse.
This team was created in 2024, to decentralize an existing formula in Châteauroux and thus limit the travel of people with cancer. This project is the fruit of the will of Doctor François Christiann, head of the oncology department at Châteauroux and Indrian president of the League against cancer, as well as the unfailing investment of Virginie Madec, of the association Les Rubans arc- rainbow. “We are at the start of the projectexplains Julie Francou. Patients are not subject to any obligation, the form is completely free, which is a plus. » The sessions take place at the Maison de santé, where a dedicated space, called Au fil de la league, will be open in February.
“A moment of well-being that corresponds to a deep need”
The relaxation workshops, which began in Éguzon, are a real success there, as evidenced by Michèle Poitel, mobility assistant and unifier, who did not hesitate to contact sick people to offer to accompany them to the sessions. “Often, these people don’t go out so I went to meet those I knew to tell them about this relaxation workshop. I thought it might do them some good and offered to take them there. »
Michèle Poitel is convinced of the effectiveness of these sessions, evoking “a moment of well-being that corresponds to a deep need” and remembering that at the end of the first session, “all left with a smile.” The six professionals involved hope for the same enthusiasm for the workshops offered in Argenton.
