Some of us look younger than our age, it is said: skin, for example, can appear smoother in view of our real age. Different factors can explain it: exposure to and protection from the sun, tobacco and alcohol consumption, unbalanced diet… It could be the same thing for our brain. Certain practices, illnesses or consumption could make it age faster, or preserve it longer. A team of researchers from the Karolinska Institutet medical university in Stockholm was interested in the factors of brain aging. The team was led by Anna Marseglia, doctor in neuropsychology and specialist in aging. The study was published in the journal Alzheimer’s & Dementia. « We wanted to study what can strengthen the brain's resistance to the pathological processes of aging.t”, details Anna Marseglia to the journalists of MedicalXpress. This approach would make it possible to identify factors that could reduce the risk of developing dementia. The most common form of dementia is Alzheimer's disease.
