It is the PMTCT Center of Excellence (Prevention of Mother-Child Transmission) of commune V which hosted this year the launch of the activities of the 2nd week of the month of fight against HIV/AIDS (Immunodeficiency Virus). Human/Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome). It was under the presidency of the Minister of Health and Social Development, Doctor-Colonel Assa Badiallo Touré.
Out of 1,777 pregnant women screened from January to September 2024 at the PMTCT Center of Excellence in Commune V of the Bamako district, 8 tested positive for HIV and put on treatment. According to the Ministry of Health and Social Development, 28 newborns of HIV-positive mothers all benefited from antiretroviral prophylaxis in this Center over this period. Just as 36,441 patients are followed regularly under “ARV» (anti-retrovirals) in the Care Unit of the said center, i.e. 10% of the active line in the health district.
Created in 2018, this center has trained more than 36 regional focal points and has enabled the effective screening and treatment of hundreds of HIV-positive pregnant women.
