“The problem is heterosexual contamination”, after the discovery of 14 linked cases

Last Monday, the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes regional health agency warned of “an unusual situation”: 14 cases of HIV infection were detected in less than six months in the territory, and the most “significant”, they were “connected together”. How did you discover this HIV “cluster” in Savoie?

With my colleagues, we noticed that the number of HIV contaminations was increasing significantly over the last two years. At the time of Covid-19, there were three or four new cases per year. In 2023, we had 21 and in 2024, we are already at more than 20.

Then, we were struck to see that recently, eight or nine people had been detected at the early stage of infection, in “primary infection”, with symptoms such as fever and rash.
