Since the end of November, the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region is experiencing a marked acceleration in cases of bronchiolitisa viral respiratory disease that mainly affects children under two years old. According to information from France Bleu, between November 25 and December 1, 322 visits to emergency for bronchiolitis were recorded in the region, representing 14.2% of pediatric consultations.

Among them, 119 children had to be hospitalized, a figure up significantly compared to the previous week.

In Vaucluse, as elsewhere, health establishments are adapting to this increased pressure. The Avignon hospital center is also seeing an increase in pediatric consultations linked to bronchiolitis.

Good actions to protect children

The Regional Health Agency (ARS) emphasizes the importance of preventive actions to limit transmission, particularly at home and in public places. Among the recommendations:

• Rigorous hygiene: wash your hands before touching an infant and clean toys, comforters, and other objects in contact with the child.
• Daily ventilation: ventilate the rooms, including the baby’s room, for at least 10 minutes a day.
• Limitation des contacts: avoid confined public places and restrict visits to close, healthy adults.
• Wearing a mask in case of symptoms: to protect babies, sick parents and loved ones must wear a mask.

In the majority of cases (95%), bronchiolitis can be managed at home with medical monitoring.
