his ingrown toenail causes septicemia which takes him away, his wife files a complaint

In Sète, a man died as a result of an ingrown toenail, the seriousness of which was apparently not taken into account enough by the various medical structures, reports the Midi-Libre website. The events happened last September: the victim, aged 75, was diabetic and suffered from circulation problems in his legs.

The man first felt unwell on September 3 but neither the firefighters nor his treating doctor detected the infection which ultimately turned out to be serious. Even if the doctor still prescribes him antibiotics, reports the same source. After a blood test, he was diagnosed with a staphylococcal infection. But he is not hospitalized yet.

On September 11 his condition deteriorated and private paramedics came to his home and understood that his case was very serious. But the medical ambulance they requested took two hours to reach the septuagenarian’s home. Too late… He died at Sète hospital and an autopsy was ordered. His widow decided to file a complaint regarding this supposed series of failures. It requires that responsibilities be established and that those at fault be punished. The public prosecutor’s office has decided to open an investigation.
