In Vendée, 582 people living with HIV are currently being monitored by the CHD. In the 1980s, it was synonymous with death. Today, life expectancy is comparable to that of the general population. The virus is less scary, especially among young people who protect themselves less than before.

The Vendée CHD is currently monitoring 582 HIV-positive people. Among them, 72% men and 28% women. The figures increase each year: for comparison, there were 495 in 2018, 562 in 2022. Since November 15, 2024 alone, the infectious disease department has received 32 new patients. A trend which is also reflected at the regional level with an increase of 3.6% since 2023. Is the HIV virus circulating more? No, it is simply the consequence of the increase in the number of screenings.
