Isère: a new pulmonary radiology truck to fight tuberculosis

The President of the Department Jean-Pierre Barbier and the Deputy Director of the departmental delegation of the ARS, Anne-Maëlle Cantinat, visited the Departmental Health Center yesterday morning, where they inaugurated the Department’s new health truck which will serve in particular to detect cases of tuberculosis in people at risk. The opportunity also to congratulate the teams for obtaining a Trophy for their vaccination action against human papillomavirus (HPV).

In , tuberculosis is an uncommon infectious disease. But for it to remain so, it must be detected in the people most at risk. This is the mission of the Anti-Tuberculosis Center (CLAT) managed by the Department within the Departmental Health Center, by delegation from the ARS. People at risk include those who come from countries with high tuberculosis endemicity, as well as people in vulnerable situations (malnutrition, wandering, living in promiscuity, etc.).

To improve the detection of communicable diseases, the 2023-2028 regional health plan of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Regional Health Agency encourages actions to “reach out” to vulnerable populations. Also, the CLAT must be able to go to all places considered at risk (emergency accommodation centers, squats, schools or universities in the event of tuberculosis disease detected, etc.). The old lung radiology truck made it possible to take nearly 600 lung images per year.

The new truck, equipped with the latest technological health innovations, retains this same prerogative with mobile radio equipment (possibility of removing the radio device for outdoor use) and energy autonomy. It will also make it possible to develop vaccination projects, screening for sexually transmitted diseases, and local prevention projects in rural areas, with itinerant intervention methods. This truck is financed by the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Regional Health Agency – the purchase of €200,000 and the cost of acquiring the radio device of around 115,000 euros.

The Departmental Health Center located in Grenoble, which has already received more than 19,300 patients this year, brings together, in addition to the CLAT:

  • the Vaccination Center;
  • the Free Information, Screening and Diagnostic Center (CeGIDD) whose mission is to prevent/screen/treat sexually transmitted infections (STIs) in a global approach to sexual health;
  • a sexual health center, a place for listening and information on sexuality, love life, relationships with others, relationships, families, parenting, domestic and family violence, etc.;
  • a maternal and child protection service (PMI), for pediatric consultations, childcare consultations, monitoring of physiological pregnancies;
  • the ARA Health Promotion association;
  • the Child Disabilities Register and Perinatal Observatory (RHEOP) association.

The Vice-President of the Department for Health, Annie Pourtier, received the Primary Prevention Prize awarded by the National Cancer Institute in , on the occasion of the Congress of Mayors, for the action coordinated by the service Public health prevention, entitled “Stop HPV”. This campaign to promote vaccination against human papillomavirus (HPV) among boys and girls, carried out since 2018, has made it possible to triple HPV vaccination coverage across the department between 2018 and 2023.

“The departmental health center is an essential player in health prevention in Isère. It provides screening, vaccination, guidance and care free of charge for the user of the most vulnerable populations affected by infectious diseases. It acts both in the context of a health emergency and in the long term through education and health promotion actions. This truck will make it possible to organize actions “outside the walls” to better reach target audiences who are often far from care for geographical or social reasons. »
Loïc Mollet, Director of the departmental delegation of ARS Isère.

“The missions of the Departmental Health Center are fundamental, particularly with regard to the most vulnerable populations. This commitment of the Department is also recognized and rewarded at the national level. With our new chest radiology truck, we will be able to get closer to patients and further improve our prevention actions. »
Jean-Pierre Barbier, President of the Department.
