Whether for the environment, animal suffering or simply for healthmore and more people are taking the plunge and reducing or even completely stopping eating meat. According to a survey by the polling company Statista carried out in 2023, 13% of French people said they were flexitarians, 3% vegetarians and 3% vegans. What if these diets were ultimately not as good for your health as we think? Researchers have looked into the question.

More and more consumers in many Western countries are reducing their meat consumption and are thus turning to a more plant-based diet. The reasons? Eating healthier, more ethically, or even because the price of meat has increased to the point of becoming too expensive. Unfortunately, such an approach is not not necessarily healthier.
A team of public health officials from Imperial College London, in collaboration with the University of São Paulo and the International Agency for Research on Cancer, based in Francedemonstrated that Brits with a predominantly vegetarian diet tend to eat more ultra-processed foods than people who eat meat.
