Bronchiolitis is gaining ground in half of the French departments, warns Public Health France in its latest bulletin of Wednesday November 27, 2024.
Marseille and Bouches-du-Rhône are thus placed in “red alert”in the same way as the PACA region.
Bronchiolitis explodes in PACA
Characterized by cough and rapid, wheezing breathing, bronchiolitis mainly affects children under two years old.
Son epidemic alert level turns red in several departments of France and this now concerns the Provence-Alpes-Côte-d’Azur region, at the same time as Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, Brittany, Centre-Val de Loire and Nouvelle -Aquitaine.
At this time, only Corsica remains “green”.
Children in intensive care units
During the week of November 18 to 24, 2024, 28 children were sent to the intensive care unit due to bronchiolitis.
This represents almost a third of hospitalizations in intensive care units for children under two years old. This figure is up compared to the previous week (28.4% in S46).
Concerning children under one year old, 26 babies went to intensive care after being in the emergency room, or around 39% of hospitalizations in intensive care units.
Precautions to limit the epidemic
To limit the risk of contamination, it is recommended to wash your hands for 30 seconds with soap and water or with a hydroalcoholic solution before and after any contact with your baby, and to open the windows of the room. where the baby sleeps at least 10 minutes a day and to avoid, when possible, taking your child to confined public places (public transport, shopping centers, etc.).
