The ROSÉ.S Center of Abitibi-Témiscamingue is increasing its awareness activities during this HIV awareness week.
ROSÉ.S. [Ressource œuvrant au soutien et à l’écoute des personnes vivant avec le VIH/Sida] is a regional community organization fighting HIV. We hold support groups, raise awareness in schools and youth centers, we offer reimbursement of the excess for medications, we also organize events to raise awareness among the population, promote protection during sexual intercourse and to distribute material like codons, etc.
indicates director Vincent Roy-Landry.
He explains that his organization is holding several activities throughout the territory to raise awareness about HIV during this week. It is very important that more people get tested for all STBBIs [infections transmissibles sexuellement et par le sang]including HIV. If everyone could get tested at some point, it would allow us to reduce the number of transmissions.
he added.
He recalls that HIV is still present and affects around 20,000 people in Quebec.
The week will culminate with World AIDS Day this Sunday.
