From the age of 50, colorectal cancer screening kits are available free of charge in pharmacies.
In Belgium, 7,000 cases of colorectal cancer are diagnosed each year and around a third of these people die. Too late diagnosis is often the cause even though screening is easier than before.
In this month of November dedicated to men’s health, the famous “movember”, many activities are organized. Doctor Jean-Benoît Burrion is organizing an alcohol-free aperitif in this context. On the 12:30 p.m. set, he explains that screening has been made easier thanks to kits available in pharmacies and accessible from the age of 50. “It’s a kit that you take home, send a sample and receive the results ten days later,” he explains.
The doctor specializing in cancer prevention explains that he “there are three big killers for men” : lung cancer, prostate and colorectal cancer. The particularity of colorectal cancer, he says, “is that it can be easily prevented through this screening.”
