Help, my hair is no longer growing: 7 tips to accelerate its growth

For the past few weeks, have you had the impression that your hair is growing very slowly, or even stagnating at the same length? Good news: there are simple tips to give them a boost.

Even if the bob has been popular for several months, the desire to flaunt a long mane hasn’t left you? Nutrition, care, drying… Certain actions give a boost to your hair growth. The centimeters are yours!

Can hair stop growing?

Sometimes we feel like our hair is no longer growing. Rest assured: this is just an impression. Only illness, real deficiencies, hormonal problems or taking certain medications can stop hair growth. If you are healthy, there is no chance that your hair has stopped growing. As a general rule, it lengthens by 0.5 to 2cm per month, depending on the nature and health of your hair. Poor nutrition or inadequate care can damage hair and, consequently, slow its growth.

7 tips to boost hair growth

Fortunately, it is possible to give nature a helping hand with a few simple actions that promote hair growth, or at least help maintain healthy hair to prevent it from being damaged during growth. .

1. Adapt your diet

Certain nutrients are essential for hair growth: amino acids, vitamin B5 and lipids. On the plate, choose avocados, cereals, lentils, quinoa, eggs, seafood, fatty fish, good oils and even nuts. Brewer’s yeast is a great ally for taking care of your hair, so don’t hesitate to sprinkle it on your dishes or consume it in capsule form. Remember to drink enough water: without it, your hair will be duller and break more easily.

2. Massage your scalp

Cranial massages make the scalp more supple and allow it to be oxygenated thanks to the vascular supply. And a healthy scalp is the guarantee of more resilient hair.

Make circular movements, pressing well with your fingers. Here too your hair type should be taken into consideration: if you have dry hair, opt for a daily massage. If your hair tends to grease easily, do not massage it more than twice a week before shampooing.

3. Brush them

Brushing has the effect of cleaning the scalp: it removes falling hair (and therefore allows new ones to make a place), dead cells, chemicals and other impurities. It also helps circulate sebum to the ends and stimulate microcirculation of the scalp.

However, don’t brush your hair haphazardly, or you risk doing worse rather than better! First, avoid detangling them when they are wet: they risk breaking under the action of the brush. If it is unthinkable for you to wait until they are dry to detangle them, use a comb with wider teeth or your fingers. Second, be aware that combing your hair from the roots can cause it to break much faster. Always start at the ends, where most of the knots are. If you are particularly prone to tangles, do not hesitate to use a detangling cream or spray.

4. Space out the shampoos

There’s nothing like a hot shower, we grant you that. But for skin and hair, hot water is a disaster: it dries out hair and makes it dull. To avoid damaging your beautiful hair, avoid washing it too often: in addition to the damage caused by heat, washing too regularly has the effect of removing the natural oils present on the scalp, their protective layer. It is recommended to wash your hair three times a week at most.

5. Use castor oil

Rich in fatty acids, castor oil nourishes the scalp and accelerates regrowth. It is applied two to three times a week for a month on the roots of the hair (leave it on for half an hour under a warm towel). Be careful, castor oil is viscous. If your hair gets greasy quickly, make this hair mask on the days you plan to wash your hair. Little extra: castor oil also nourishes the skin, strengthens nails and strengthens eyelashes… A miracle oil, in a way!

6. Feed them

Pollution, heating appliances, exposure to the sun… Your hair is subject to numerous attacks. You must therefore nourish your lengths to help them fight against these external attacks. How? By regularly making a mask prepared by yourself or purchased commercially for intense nutrition in a few minutes.

7. Be careful with drying

Long hair requires a lot of patience. Don’t be violent when wringing your hair with your towel after getting out of the shower. No question of rubbing them vigorously, at the risk of breaking them. Preferably use a microfiber towel (or an old cotton t-shirt) to reduce friction. If weather permits, let your hair air dry or use a heat protectant spray before using the hairdryer.
