If physical exercise is of capital importance for health and fitness, it is just as important for the brain, specifically for cognitive processing. A new scientific study, led by a team at Pennsylvania State University, found that a few minutes of simple physical activities can improve cognitive processing speed.

Improve brain capacity by walking your dog

There are many tips for boost brain capacity on a daily basis. Simple physical exercises, which do not necessarily require going to the gym, can be effective, as professor of neurology and psychology Jonathan Hakun maintains.

While there are excellent foods for the brain, according to this professor, an exercise as simple as walking your dog every day helps improve cognitive processing speed more or less easily. According to Jonathan Hakun, very simple activities like
do housework can also do the trick.

Walking allows 4 years of brain rejuvenation

As the media explains The Mirror in his article, cognitive processing speed is the speed at which the brain takes in and processes information. The study published in the journal Annals of Behavioral Medicine was conducted among 200 adults aged 40 to 65. Several times a day, they recorded themselves on an app while reporting any physical activity carried out since the last recording, then performed brain games.

It was found that on days when participants practiced physical activity – light like walking, or more intense, like jogging – they showed improvements in
cognitive processing speed equivalent to a rejuvenation of four years.
