«I wanted to extend the altruistic vocation of my doctor husband. I immediately felt that the man was going to leave, but not his soul. » The one that everyone calls Madame Alain Rousseau has been maintaining the memory of her deceased husband for six years, through the foundation that bears his name.
For more than forty years, the general practitioner devoted his life to his patients, who still numbered 3,000 on June 13, 2016, when he died of myocarditis in just three days.
One project supported per year
In 2018, the Docteur Alain Rousseau Foundation was launched, with capital of 150,000 euros. The goal is to support research against cardiovascular diseases, the second cause of death in France after cancer. “I put the treasury of his office at the service of science. It helps me manage my pain because my life changed in three days,” confides Francine Rousseau.
Sheltered by the Foundation for Medical Research, the Bergerac structure, which is supported by donations, finances one research project per year for an average sum of 30,000 euros. In 2019, for example, she helped a team of researchers from Toulouse to highlight the role of a protein in the onset of heart failure linked to diabetes and obesity. In 2022, the funds supported specialists from the NeuroMyoGène Institute in Lyon who wanted to develop a biocompatible support in damaged areas of the heart, after a heart attack, in order to promote the regeneration of cardiac tissue.
