While the transition to the epidemic phase of dengue fever in Guadeloupe was recorded last week, the regional health agency (ARS) is warning of the return of the DENV3 serotype to the territory. Appearing around twenty years ago, this serotype of the virus had practically disappeared in favor of serotype 2. It is therefore back with risks of serious form or a high number of cases.
The DENV3 serotype, which has returned to Guadeloupe since the start of the school year, is rare and circulates very little. Appearing around twenty years ago, it is neither more nor less dangerous than serotype 2 which usually circulates. However, health authorities organized a press conference to alert the population, which has very little immunity to this form of dengue fever.
