Diabetes: Lions International organizes a free screening in the Leclerc gallery in Gien

Saturday November 16, the Sully-Gien International Lions is organizing, with the Lider Diabète association, a diabetes screening day in the Leclerc gallery. A rapid and anonymous test which was successful during the morning.

For the hundreds of people who stopped on Saturday, November 16 morning, in front of the Lions international Sully-Gien stand in the Leclerc gallery, it took less than two minutes to have the beginnings of an answer to the question: are you Are you at risk of diabetes?

The association organizes with Lider Diabète rapid, anonymous, free and painless screening. On a voluntary basis, for all people aged 18 or over.

Simple questionnaire and possible follow-up with a doctor

The process is simple. A questionnaire is completed to find out the patient’s age, weight, height, sex, any history of diabetes in the family, and whether or not they are fasting. The nurses present voluntarily then make a mark on the finger with a lancing device. Before collecting the drop of blood with a blood glucose machine.

A blood glucose machine is used to collect blood sugar levels.

“Following these data, if the figures are abnormal, we have a doctor, Philippe Guillot, with us. He examines them more precisely and can put them in contact with their treating doctor so that there is follow-up of the screening.”

Gilles Pontonnier (Member of Lions International Sully-Gien)

Around 300 tests are planned by the association during this day. The stand is present until 6 p.m.

4 million French people with diabetes in 2022

“We were tense, because it’s the first time we’ve done it. We already had six abnormal figures in the first hour, so we fulfilled part of our mission,” adds Gilles Pontonnier. Men, women, young people and retirees, all categories of people played the game.

Gilles Pontonnier and Philippe Guillot recall:

The problem with diabetes is that it can be silent up to a certain level. It attacks a little bit of all the organs. It is necessary to warn in advance, otherwise it is a much more difficult treatment afterwards. To combat this, it is regular physical activity and controlling your weight.

In , more than 4 million people had diabetes in 2022 and nearly a million people would have diabetes, without knowing it.
