Red fruit flavored e-cigarettes, a potential danger for the lungs

According to a recent study, flavored electronic cigarettes, particularly those with red fruits, present health risks. What could be the long-term impacts?

Tl;dr

  • Electronic cigarettes with red fruits could weaken the pulmonary immune system.
  • A study from McGill University shows that these aromas paralyze certain immune cells.
  • Vaping products, particularly attractive to young people, present a serious risk to their future health.

The hidden dangers of electronic cigarettes

Long seen as a safer alternative to traditional tobacco, electronic cigarettes are now in the spotlight. In question, the discovery of health risks linked to the aromas used, in particular those with red fruits.

Weakened immune defenses

According to a recent study led by Professor Ajitha Thanabalasuriar of McGill University, these specific aromas could weaken the lungs’ natural defenses. This would make the body more vulnerable to respiratory infections.

After exposing mice to e-cigarette vapor for several days, the research team observed paralysis of lung immune cells. The latter, normally responsible for eliminating harmful particles, were thus neutralized.

Not all flavors are equal

“We have to be careful about the types of flavors we include in these products”warns Professor Thanabalasuriar. While the study confirms that all forms of vaping can be harmful, it also suggests that certain flavors exacerbate these dangers.

Increased risk for adolescents

The report further highlights the serious risk these products pose to the future health of adolescents. Often attractively marketed for this age group, they can lead to regular, even addictive consumption, potentially having serious consequences for their health.

It is therefore essential to make young people aware of the dangers inherent in the use of electronic cigarettes, regardless of the flavor chosen.
