Prostate cancer represents 25% of all male cancers and is therefore the leading cancer in men with almost 60,000 cases in 2023, according to the Cancer Research Foundation. It is clearly ahead of lung and colon and rectal cancers, respectively numbering 33,000 and 26,000 in 2023.

Prostate cancer affects approximately 66% of cases in men over 60, but forms diagnosed at a younger age are not rare.

Prostate cancer is the third cause of cancer death in men but remains a cancer with a good, even very good, prognosis with a high five-year survival rate. Mortality has been declining steadily since 1990.

Better treatments and better access to screening which allows early diagnosis explain this great advance. 80% of cancers are diagnosed while they are still localized to the prostate and the major prognostic factor for this cancer lies in the stage reached at the time of diagnosis.
