Two new cases of chikungunya, the same outbreaks affected

The regional health agency confirms this Friday, November 15, the appearance of two new indigenous cases of chikungunya. This brings the number of people infected since August to 16.

During its weekly epidemiological update, the Réunion Regional Health Agency confirms two new cases of chikungunya confirmed in the department. This brings the number of cases reported since August 23, 2024 to 16.

One of these cases is located in the already identified outbreak of Hermitage, which brings to six the number of people concerned in this district of Saint-Gilles.

The second concerns the last outbreak identified in the South, and more precisely at Etang-Salé-les-Hauts. The infected person actually lives close to the first confirmed case in this locality last week.

This new case confirms “a dispersion of viral circulation”note l’ARS.

To date, there are still three outbreaks that have been identified, including that of Aigrettes, still in Saint-Gilles (7 cases), to which must be added an isolated case in Saint-Gilles.

“The latest recent cases call for the greatest vigilance because they demonstrate continued transmission at the Hermitage but also geographic dispersion”underlines the ARS.
