“I’m a doctor and this is the maximum amount of dark chocolate you can eat each day”

If paying attention to your diet is imperative for many, it still happens that sometimes you want to treat yourself with something sweet. For this, many of us opt for a little sweet treat: chocolate. While everyone has their preferences in this area, some prefer to focus on their most “healthy” version by choosing dark chocolate. Although it is preferable to other varieties, we must not forget that it still contains a good portion of cocoa butter, and therefore saturated fat, which must be avoided as much as possible to stay in shape. But if you can’t do without this treat, no worries, according to Alexandra Dalu, nutritionist, it is possible to eat it every day provided you respect a few rules, including a very specific portion.

Here is the amount of dark chocolate to consume per day

In an interview with Madame Figarothe expert explained that as with everything, “it’s the dose that makes the poison”. So don’t feel guilty about wanting your chocolate session every day, the key is not to overdo it. “Allowing yourself only one square of chocolate is frustrating, but three squares seem reasonable to treat yourself”, she explains. But be careful, if the quantity is to be monitored, another parameter that you certainly did not have in mind is also very important.

For Alexandra Dalu, you also have to be careful when you eat dark chocolate. She recommends consuming it at the end of the meal so that it mixes with what she calls the bolus, that is to say everything that is in your stomach after the meal. “The sugar will be coated by all the macronutrients present in the composition of the meal. This will delay cravings, limit the absorption, storage of sugar and its transformation into fat”, explains the specialist. If it is consumed outside of a meal, you will see a much greater spike in blood sugar levels which may make you want to snack a few hours later.

Which dark chocolate to choose?

Note that if you are not a fan of dark chocolate, but you prefer it to prioritize your health, don’t forget that the market has many possibilities to thrill your taste buds. This is what Alexandra Dalu pointed out to the publication: “There are a lot of alternatives, very smooth dark chocolates, for example, which taste like milk chocolate, or others made from the sugar and fiber of dates, less rich in sucrose..” Good news for everyone who can’t live without their daily dose of chocolate. With this, they will be able to find the variety that suits them best without feeling guilty.
