clinics are mobilizing against antibiotic resistance

Fight against a growing health scourge. This is the objective of Clinavenir, the alliance of independent clinics in , during its awareness day organized on November 20. From the François Mitterrand esplanade, located at the Jean-Jaurès metro exit, health professionals will present the dangers of misuse of antibiotics, leading to antibiotic resistance. The initiative is led by doctors Camille Fourcade and Lydie Porte, infectious disease specialists in the region.

Antibiotics have revolutionized medicine, but their effectiveness is now threatened. It is imperative to raise public awareness of this problem which is becoming a real public health issue,” explains Dr Porte.

As the doctor presents it, antibiotic resistance has never been as threatening as it is today.

The forecasts are alarming: the number of annual deaths linked to antibiotic resistance could reach ten million by 2050 (WHO). This “silent pandemic” would then become one of the main causes of mortality worldwide. , which is among the leading European countries consuming antibiotics, is particularly concerned by this phenomenon. According to the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control, overconsumption of antibiotics causes 5,500 annual deaths in France and 125,000 resistant bacterial infections.

The overuse of antibiotics is a main cause of antibiotic resistance. In France, where the consumption of antibiotics is among the highest in Europe, it is crucial to raise public awareness of the consequences of this practice,” says Dr Fourcade.

Thus, doctors, biologists and nurses from Clinavenir will meet in next Wednesday, to remind people of the proper uses of antibiotics.
