The two vaccines – free for the most vulnerable populations – can be administered simultaneously in all health care structures of the Health Directorate, as well as in pharmacies in Tahiti and the Leeward Islands.
The new joint vaccination campaign against seasonal flu and Covid-19 is underway until April 30. Like every year, it aims to “protect the most vulnerable populations” : people aged over 60, patients with chronic pathologies, pregnant women and people working in exposed professions. Because “despite a decline in the global threat linked to Covid-19, the virus continues to circulate”assures the Health Department, which reports 75 hospitalizations and 3 deaths during the 2023-2024 season. Concerning the flu, 259 hospitalizations and 11 deaths were counted over the same period. Observations which are at the origin of this initiative of “joint vaccination”offering the possibility of simultaneous administration of the two free vaccines for “target audiences”. Available over the counter for any other person wishing to protect themselves, they can be done in all the health care structures of the Health Department but also in approved pharmacies in Tahiti and the Leeward Islands. The Health Department finally recalls the importance of barrier measures, such as wearing a mask and hand hygiene, to limit the spread of viruses.
