It will take place at the Clément Marot space at 8:30 p.m.
The environment plays an important role in the development of certain cancers, particularly through exposure to carcinogenic substances. Among the risk factors, we find air pollution, industrial chemicals, pesticides, as well as radiation (ultraviolet, X-rays), but also infectious agents. For example, asbestos is associated with lung cancer and mesothelioma, while air pollution increases the risk of respiratory cancers. Biological infections, such as the human papillomavirus (HPV) or hepatitis B, can also cause cancer. Prevention involves reducing exposure to harmful substances, in particular through stricter regulations, improved working conditions, and awareness campaigns to encourage protective behavior. The Carrefour des Sciences et des Arts association is organizing an “environment and cancer” conference with the League Against Cancer this Tuesday, November 12, at 8:30 p.m., at the Clément Marot conference space, in Cahors. It will be moderated by Augustin Le Naour, lecturer in toxicology at the faculty of pharmacy at Paul Sabatier Toulouse III University. He holds a doctorate in biology, health and biotechnology (2017) and a doctor of pharmacy degree. He is currently affiliated with the Toulouse Cancer Research Center (CRCT) and conducts research on the effects of pesticides in carcinogenesis and resistance to anticancer treatments in the team of Professor Elizabeth Moyal.
