The Allier prefecture informs that a “first outbreak of highly pathogenic avian influenza has just been confirmed on November 7, 2024 in the Allier department”. The first cases having been detected in France in August.
This first outbreak of avian flu occurred in Saint-Plaisir. “To avoid any risk of spreading the virus to other farms, regulated protection and surveillance zones are set up within a radius of 3 and 10 km.“. The municipalities concerned are: Bourbon l’Archambault, Cerilly, Couleuvre, Franchesse, Le Vilhain, Limoise, Lurcy Levis, Pouzy Mesangy, Saint Aubin le Monial, Thenuille and Ygrande.
Security perimeter
In these areas, all places where poultry and captive birds are kept are subject to specific requirements. Especially, movements of poultry and other captive birds are prohibitedexcept for exemptions granted by the departmental directorate in charge of Population Protection. A depopulation operation of around 200 poultry, on the farm affected by the case of avian influenza, was carried out to avoid any risk of spreading the virus.
Stay vigilant
Professionals in the sector are called upon to demonstrate vigilance and strictly respect biosecurity measures (in particular sheltering), throughout the department.
Furthermore, the discovery of dead wild birds must be declared to the SAGIR monitoring network. More information: http://www.allier.gouv.fr/volailles-r355.html
As a reminder: the consumption of meat, foie gras and eggs – and more generally any poultry-based food product – presents no risk to humans.
