In its latest point, this November 7, 2024, the African Center for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC), an autonomous continental health agency of the African Union, warns regarding Mpox on the continent: even if the speed of spread of the virus is slowing slightly, the epidemic continues to progress.
The epidemic of Mpox is slowing slightly on the African continent. This is what emerges from the latest figures communicated on November 7, 2024 by Africa CDC.
According to this autonomous continental health agency of the African Union, 11,450 new cases were recorded in the last four weeks compared to 12,800 in the previous four weeks. A slowdown certainly, but the epidemic continues to progress, warns Jean Kaseya, director general of the African Center for Disease Control and Prevention: “ In April, when we organized the first meeting to alert the international community to the presence of Mpox, we only had six countries affected and 300 dead. In August we had 13 affected countries, 23,000 cases and 600 deaths. But, today, the number of cases has doubled, the death toll is over 1,083 and 19 countries are affected. »
