Spending more than 6 to 7 hours sitting per day can make you sedentary, a common situation for those who work in the office or informal sectors. According to health experts, a sedentary lifestyle causes many health problems that are often underestimated.
Humans are genetically made to move according to health specialists. So this lack of physical activity can result from several health problems, according to Dr Bréhima Berthé, endocrinologist at the CCREF in commune 6 of Bamako. “The causes of this sedentary lifestyle can be weight gain and later joint problems. We can also talk about metabolic problems which can be diabetes, high blood pressure”explains the specialist. The solution, according to him, “it’s being able to activate the person, being able to encourage them to do regular physical activity”.

To combat a sedentary lifestyle, it is recommended to get up for at least 1 minute every hour. Internally, instead of making phone calls, go see them. In short, we have to move.
