Bronchiolitis, Ile de placed in pre-epidemic state

Juliette comes to consult a pediatrician for her 18-month-old son Pio. She suspects bronchiolitis: “He has a cough, I hope that’s not it. He actually had two bronchiolitis in a row when he started daycare when he was very little. I had to take it out.” This disease, which is rarely serious, always impresses parents: “a very small baby, we will always listen to his breathing, see if he is breathing. There, it makes a little whistling sound, he has difficulty breathing, so obviously it’s a little scary.” Alexandre took the lead in having his son Nicolas, from Beyfortus. Her seven-month-old baby is visibly in great shape: “It was the pediatrician who advised us, saying that it was an illness that was often present in winter. I think it reduces the severity of the disease. And so we have it, we took it as soon as winter started“.

It is not a vaccine. The Beyfortus is in any case very recent; it has been available for a year. Beatrice Di Mascio is a pediatrician in the 11th arrondissement: “These are antibodies that we send to the child ovarian antibodies since they are aimed at respiratory virus, which is one of the most important causes of bronchiolitis. This is to be done to children from birth up to one year old. It protects him against the most serious forms of the disease immediately.“. The specialist sees 10 to 12 children with bronchiolitis per day. pre-epidemic situation which does not alarm him: “There are many consultations in hospital emergency rooms but few hospitalizations. Last year, thanks to the first Beyfortus, we were able to avoid 5,804 hospitalizations“. Same observation with this pharmacist from the 11th arrondissement: “We are going to enter the epidemic period, but not particularly this week. Last year, we had supply difficulties and this year, we were provided with Beyfortus in sufficient quantitye. We were able to manage the demand.”

If in doubt, here is some advice from the pediatrician Beatrice Di Mascio : “Above all, we must encourage the unblocking of nasopharyngitis in children. So you have to blow his nose a lot with physiological serum, suction his nose regularly, especially before eating, before sleeping, make him sleep elevated by raising the head of the bed. It should not be too hot in the apartment. Meals should also be split up. This is extremely important. Already because during fits, he vomits. So it’s a little anxiety-inducing for parents. And the second thing is that you have to take care of your hydration. So it’s better to give small amounts but often and make sure he is well hydrated. The first sign of dehydration is when the child no longer urinates and the diapers are dry. This is a cause for concern“.
