A recent study reveals that certain blood groups increase the risk of stroke before the age of 60. This discovery could guide further research.

Led by the University of Maryland, the study analyzed genetic data from thousands of stroke patients. The goal was to better understand the factors involved. Researchers compared 17,000 stroke patients to 60,000 healthy people. They focused on the genetic differences between these groups.

The results highlighted a marked trend: individuals with blood group A have a significantly higher probability of suffering a stroke before the age of 60. More precisely, their risk is increased by 16% compared to other blood groups. This discovery suggests that biological mechanisms linked to coagulation sanguinesuch as the formation of clots, could be involved in these patients.

Conversely, people with blood group O seem to benefit from natural protection against this type of vascular accident. Their risk of suffering an early stroke is reduced by 12%, a figure that intrigues researchers. The latter hypothesize that certain specific properties of this blood group, perhaps linked to a lesser tendency to form clots, could explain this difference.

This contrast between blood groups A and O is now a priority area of ​​research to better understand how our genetics influence our vascular health.

Furthermore, blood group B also seems to be affected, although to a lesser extent. In fact, individuals affected by this blood group have an 11% higher probability of suffering a stroke, regardless of their age. Researchers continue to explore this phenomenon.
