Tahiti and Moorea are still facing a whooping cough epidemic. PCR tests remain covered by Arass for another three weeks.
During week 43, 62 new cases were confirmed, including 28 in Tahiti and 1 first case reported in Taha’ain the Raromatai. Among the cases, there were 6 babies under 10 months, 5 children aged 1 to 6 and 51 people aged 7 to 70. No cases required hospitalization during this week.
Week 44 saw a first case of pertussis in Fakahinain a person who had stayed in Tahiti and Bora-Bora during his period of exposure. Control measures are in place on the island to limit the spread.
Since the start of the epidemic in June, 254 cases have been confirmed, of which 10 people had to be hospitalized, mainly babies 8 months or younger.
Most cases (83%) involve people aged 7 to 79, while 17% are infants. The number of infected students in schools has almost tripled since week 41, showing high transmission in schools.
