A study reveals the harmful effects of sugar during the first months of life

DECRYPTION – Many children reach the sugar consumption threshold recommended for adults by the age of 2. This can increase the risk of obesity and type 2 diabetes many years later.

Being exposed to sugar from the first 1000 days of life increases the risk of hypertension, obesity and developing type 2 diabetes in adulthood. This is what a study conducted by the University of Southern California and published in Sciencewhich analyzes data from British cohorts. The first 1000 days of life take into account the period of development of the fetus in the mother’s womb until the child’s second birthday. This study includes a total of 60,183 individuals, making it “ surely one of the largest collections of human biological data », Describes Serge Luquet, research director in functional and adaptive biology at -Cité University and the CNRS.
