the essential
The solidarity association organized a cycle of two awareness-raising conferences around prevention and resilience through sports practice and systematic screening.
If the Relai’ve association has now been established on the street since the beginning of September and the opening of its solidarity structure La Maison de Rose, at 1 bis, rue François-Raynal in Moissac, it has been active since 2022 She has notably mobilized each year as part of Pink October, this month dedicated to highlighting the fight against breast cancer.
This is what Ariane Soum-Mestric, the coordinator of the structure, recalled as a preamble to the double conference given on Wednesday, October 23, in the auditorium of the congregation of the Sisters of Mercy, with which the association shares the premises. Ahead of this studious afternoon, the employees (remember that Relai’ve currently employs eleven people reclaiming the path to active life, accompanied by three supervisors) of the restaurant open to members had concocted a special lunch of very high quality. Let’s remember here that you only need to pay a fee of 1 euro to become a member and participate in this great adventure all year round, and access this good table for lunch from Monday to Friday.
Prevention with sports practice
After coffee and sweets, the public was able to go upstairs to the auditorium and meet Cécile Kerhervé, sports instructor in adapted sports activities and supervisor at Relai’ve, for the first conference on the benefits of the activity physics in the fight against disease. We know the preventive action of sports practice, even moderate, in the face of the development of often serious pathologies, including cancer. One of the great contemporary scourges, in addition to the consumption of tobacco, alcohol and poor diet, remains a sedentary lifestyle. But this practice, and it is less known, is also indicated with good support during treatment and the remission phase. In addition to the physiological benefits, group practice allows you to maintain a social bond which sometimes weakens with the illness.
At the end of this very educational development, another professional took the floor to present the mysteries of organized breast cancer screening in France. Véronique Martin, medical electroradiology technician at the Castelsarrasin-Moissac intercommunal hospital center, is a stakeholder in the system, set up nationally and managed by health insurance.
From her fiftieth birthday, each woman is invited by mail to a biannual follow-up at the medical imaging center of her choice. This non-intrusive examination then benefits from a double reading to lock in the diagnosis. This is indeed a public health measure, with 80% of breast cancers appearing after the age of 50 with a peak around the early sixties.
Get tested as soon as possible
Obviously, early detection remains the best guarantee for recovery, and we must further improve the participation rate (today, around 50% of eligible women throughout France).
In front of an attentive and questioning audience, Marie, Christine and Magali, three women who had experienced the disease, were then able to share their respective experiences, real lessons in resilience. This informative afternoon ended with the sale of pastries for the benefit of the Artemis 82 association, a network of professionals grouped around the management of breast cancer in Tarn-et-Garonne.
