Flu, Covid and RSV in the viewfinder for vaccination

The health department launched its winter virus vaccination campaign yesterday. This can be done at your doctor or pharmacy. Covid, the flu or even RSV, often associated with bronchiolitis, are in the viewfinder.

Geneva is launching its campaign against winter viruses this week. Understand here the now classic Flu and Covid combo. But also the respiratory syncytal virus (RSV). “It mainly attacks the youngest people: infants or children under two years old mainly, and causes respiratory syndromes ranging from simple colds to severe pneumonia. It burdens the health system and remains dangerous for this pediatric population,” explains Simon Regard, head of the communicable diseases sector within the Cantonal Health Office.

For this virus, immunization exists via a treatment that can be given for the first time in Switzerland this year: Beyfortus. For flu and Covid, there remains vaccination. Recommended here for people aged 65 and over as well as those said to be at risk: people with chronic illnesses, pregnant people, premature children or those around people at risk.

National Day November 8

Beyond vaccination, the right actions must be applied without moderation: daily and regular ventilation, hand washing and wearing a mask as soon as flu symptoms appear.

Various vaccination locations are listed on an interactive map on the ge.ch website: medical practices, pharmacies and even HUG. Please note that National Vaccination Day will take place this year on Friday, November 8. It will then be possible to get vaccinated against the flu from doctors or pharmacies participating in the operation for a flat rate of 30 francs.
