Flu season is here… It’s more important than ever to get your flu shot!

provided by Eastern Ontario Health Unit (EOHU)

As fall and cooler weather arrives, flu season sets in. The flu vaccine is the best protection given the increased severity of the flu and other respiratory illnesses in recent years. It is more important than ever to get vaccinated. The flu vaccine is available and recommended for everyone 6 months and older.

“Respiratory illnesses make their rounds every year, but the flu poses a much greater risk to young children,” says Dr. Paul Roumeliotis, Medical Officer of Health with the Eastern Ontario Health Unit (EOHU). “I strongly recommend that everyone in your household get vaccinated this fall, especially if they are under 5 or over 65. Getting the flu vaccine can help keep you and your loved ones healthy and to reduce the pressure on our already overwhelmed health system. »

Flu vaccines available throughout the region

Flu shots are available at various locations throughout the five eastern United Counties and Cornwall from health care providers, community health centers and participating pharmacies. The BSEO offers children aged 6 months to under 5 years old and members of their household the flu vaccine by appointment. Visit BSEO.ca to find out how to make an appointment.

Certain groups of people who are at greater risk of complications from the flu are strongly encouraged to get vaccinated. Among them are:

  • Children from 6 months to under 5 years old
  • People aged 65 and over
  • People with chronic illnesses
  • Pregnant people

If you live with or care for someone from one of the above groups, or if you care for babies under 6 months who are too young to receive the vaccine, we strongly recommend that you get vaccinated too. This simple step will help protect you and those around you.
