Cardiovascular diseases: more than 300 women took advantage of the bus to be screened

Three intense days, parade ground, with the presence of the women’s heart bus which stopped in for the last time. « We travel three times to a municipality in order to follow women and reach as many beneficiaries as possible. So this is our last visit to Calais but the dynamic is launched », Explains Vincent Morel national coordinator of Agir pour le cœur des femmes. The first two editions allowed 200 women to be screened. This year more than 300 women have benefited from this health check-up.

Heart problems in women are more atypical than in men, hence the need for these screenings.

The bus of women’s hearts is also one hundred healthcare professionals who volunteer their time. For Mohamed El Mouden, hospital patrician at the Calais hospital center: “ cardiac, gynecological or diabetes problems are detected. Heart problems in women are more atypical than in men, hence the need for these screenings. It’s a good thing that this bus passes through Calais. It should come every 3 or 4 months », he concludes.

The route lasts between 1.5 and 2 hours. If this bus is there to prevent cardiovascular diseases in women, the health check is complete. In the health village, dental health, addiction risks, gynecological problems as well as blood pressure and heart rate are checked. Everything is scrutinized from the medical history to the results obtained during the day, to provide the patient with advice or even letters allowing a consultation with a general practitioner or a specialist. At the end of their journey, the women leave with a blood pressure monitor. The stand of the Primary Health Insurance Fund (CPAM) also made it possible to report the absence of a treating doctor.
