Hiking and mountain biking organized by the Oligocyte Bretagne association, to fight against brain tumors: the tenth Randoligo took place on Sunday, in the town.

Walk and ride in the fight against brain tumors

The first edition of Randoligo, in 2015, brought together nearly 400 people. At 10 a.m. this Sunday, there were already more than 1,000. “We should reach 1,500,” then hopes Bernard Léon, president of the association.

Several options are offered according to everyone’s wishes: four hiking routes (6, 8, 12 and 20 km) and four mountain bike routes (17, 28, 38 and 40 km).

“There are over 100 different brain tumors, some so rare that they are unknown,” deplores the president. The association can count on its sponsor, skipper Charlie Dalin (second in the 2020 Vendée Globe) to highlight these illnesses: “The skippers represent the fight well, they have fighting spirit over time. »

A symbolic check for €54,000

The event raises funds for research. The association must also hand over a symbolic check for €54,000 (€38,000 for Professor Carpentier’s research program, and €16,000 for the Eugène-Marquis center in ).

It also pays €8,000 per year directly to families affected by the disease. “All sick Breton children are taken care of in Rennes, some parents have to take unpaid leave”explains Bernard Léon.

A speech and big news

In the middle of the afternoon, Professor Carpentier takes the floor to talk about the disease and answer questions from the public. “He is a very human man, very accessible. »

Highlight of the speech, the hopeful announcement of a new treatment. “We have been working on a vaccine for six years, we have just received agreement from the National Medicines Safety Agency to carry out a clinical trial on patients”, explains Antoine Carpentier. It will not be a question of preventing the disease, but of treating it: “It will be for people who have had surgery, who have just finished their radiotherapy. » The test will take place in , Besançon, Rennes and . The first phase will consist of ensuring the non-toxicity of the treatment, the second of verifying its effectiveness. “We will start cautiously. » The trial will begin next week: “Before Christmas, someone will have had the vaccine. “.
